  1.                       VERSION INFORMATION FOR TURBOLOG
  2.                       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  3. The entire history of TurboLog development, from version 1.00 onwards is
  4. given in this document, in chronological order.

  7. Version 1.00  04-Jan 1992

  9. This is the first release of TurboLog. 
  10.  
  11. Version 1.01  20-Jan 1992
  12. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  13. Try as we might, a few minor bugs crept past our beta-trial team!
  14. BUG FIXES:
  15. * The pull down menus now display in monochrome when DISPLAY MONO; is set in
  16.   TURBOLOG.CNF. Also, the screensaver display will be in mono when
  17.   DISPLAY MONO;
  18. * Edit TURBOLOG.CNF from the PacketCluster utilities menu crashed the system:
  19.   fixed.
  20. * Morse messages and profiles SAVE operation saved to default file name
  21.   rather than the file in use. Fixed.
  22. * Default RSTs for RTTY were set as 59, now set to 599.
  23.  
  24. NEW FEATURES:
  25. * The directory lists, used during all file operations are now ordered in root
  26.   filename order (was in DOS order, which sometimes made it hard to find things).
  27. * The import facility now supports another import standard, used to allow the
  28.   import of ASCII files created as a result of our paper log conversion service.
  29. * Also released with version 1.01 is a demonstration version which gives the
  30.   full functionality of TurboLog, but with a sort of "random death". This
  31.   means that prospective customers can try the complete program out and then
  32.   order the registered version without the random death feature. The TurboLog
  33.   demonstrator is public domain. You can get a copy by sending me a disc with
  34.   return postage.

  38. Mainly a features enhancements release.
  39. KNOWN BUG:
  40. * In general purpose ASCII import, the date field must be the FIRST field in
  41.   the import log record, otherwise the date is interpreted incorrectly. This
  42.   is fixed in V1.03
  43.  
  44. BUG FIXES:
  45. * Grabbing a call from PacketCluster would change band, and mode, but not the
  46.   report defaults. This is now fixed.
  47. * The power field was not correctly imported in the general purpose ASCII
  48.   import procedure. Fixed.
  49.  
  50. NEW FEATURES:
  51. * Support for the HAMCALL database is implemented. For more information on 
  52.   this and other databases, please contact your distributor.
  53. * The personal directory is greatly enhanced to allow multiple directory files
  54.   (8) and an indexed lookup. This makes for very fast lookup, even if you have 
  55.   several very large directories.
  56. * The personal directory is now interrogated with Keyword data as well as 
  57.   Callsign data.
  58. * The Review mode is enhanced to allow the use of the + key to set QSO finish
  59.   time to current system time. This is useful for closing off net type QSO's.
  60. * When TL is first started up the band/mode/power defaults to those of the last
  61.   QSO entered (if any), rather than always starting on 1.8 CW.

  65. KNOWN BUG:
  66. * The SORT operation does not rebuild the keyword index file correctly. Work
  67.   around this by performing an index rebuild for this file.
  68.  
  69. BUG FIXES:
  70. * If the date field was not the first field in the line, general purpose ASCII
  71.   import got date wrong. Fixed (Found by G4VXE, tnx)
  72. * PCDB and other external databases now work ok under windows.
  73. * Using a TNC with PMS resulted in an apparent disconnect from Cluster when
  74.   the PMS caller disconnected. (Reported by G0OFE, tnx)
  75. * In DXCC listings, ALL MODES listings gave CW worked listing only. 
  76.   (Reported by G4UXG, tnx).

  78. NEW FEATURES:
  79. * Ten "internal database" hot keys, Alt-1 to Alt-0 are defined. The QSL and
  80.   HAMCALL keys are removed, as they are available as one of the ten Alt-#
  81.   keys. The demonstration mode keys are redefined as Cntl-F1 and Cntl-F2.
  82.   New parameters are added in TURBOLOG.CNF to cater for this feature.
  83. * QSL printing enhanced to allow printing of labels for QSO's that have NOT
  84.   been marked for QSL'ing.
  85. * The general purpose ASCII import now allows you to import QSL sent and
  86.   received information fields. File handling error messages are improved.
  87. * The logbook list process is enhanced to include a search scope of
  88.   "ALL QSO's".
  89. * The DXCC and KEYWORD listings are enhanced to allow listing of 
  90.   countries worked/not worked/all.

  92. Version 1.04  20-Feb 1992

  94. KNOWN BUG:
  95. * External databases and gateways will not run if the you run TurboLog from a
  96.   different disk to that you booted the system from. Will be fixed in 1.05.
  97.  
  98. BUG FIXES:
  99. * Log SORT operation didn't rebuild the user keyword index file correctly.
  100.   Found by G3TXF: tnx!
  101.  
  102. NEW FEATURES:
  103. * Date display in log and on the top line is greatly enhanced to allow the 
  104.   following formats:  DD-MM-YY, MM/DD/YY, DDMMM-YY and MMMDD/YY. The format
  105.   is determined by DATEFORM in TURBOLOG.CNF.
  106. * The QSL print program is enhanced to allow user defined QSL data files to
  107.   be produced. QSL data is output to as ASCII file with whatever delimiters
  108.   the user defines, one line per record, for use by external QSL programs.
  109. * A new parameter is added in TURBOLOG.CNF. TIMEOFS allows you to specify the
  110.   difference in hours between your PC's clock and UTC.

  114. BUG FIXES:
  115. * Databases and gateways would not run if COMMAND.COM was not on the same 
  116.   drive as TurboLog (eg boot drive=C:, but Turbolog in drive D:). Tnx: G0NUP.
  117. * In post event mode 29-Feb 92 was flagged invalid date. Got my leap year
  118.   sums wrong, sri! Tnx: G0OFE.
  119. * If the TNC got into command mode and you then sent a TALK, the TNC went into
  120.   transparent mode! This is fixed by sending the full TALK rather than just T.
  121.   Tnx: G0OFE.

  123. NEW FEATURES:
  124. * Support for K1EA version 7.20 and upwards implemented. The CT .RES file now
  125.   contains mode (CW, SSB or RTTY) and this is detected and correctly
  126.   imported. Thanks to G3NKS & G4VXE for assistance with this one.
  127. * A facility to void a range of QSO's is supported in the REVIEW procedure,
  128.   accessed via F6 (review) then Alt-F7. Useful if you import something by
  129.   mistake! You still need to do a sort to delete the voided QSO's.

  133. BUG FIX:
  134. * It was occasionally possible, on some systems, for TL to run out of file 
  135.   handles. The file handle alias table has been moved from the PSP and 
  136.   increased in size from the DOS PSP limit of 20 up to 31. Note: you still need
  137.   to set FILES=40 in your CONFIG.SYS.

  141. BUG FIXES:
  142. * In logbook, Alt-R when the "I've worked" display was showing would result in
  143.   the log display being lost. Fixed.
  144. * The last number in serial number sent was never abbreviated by the CW keyer.
  145. * An extra space was inserted between RST and serial number by the CW keyer.
  146. * A problem in TNC initialisation is fixed.
  147.  
  148. NEW FEATURES:
  149. * The information contained in ERR.LOG (in USRFILES) is greatly enhanced.
  150. * Improvements are made to the way outbound serial numbers are handled in
  151.   log entry operations, when in contest mode.
  152. * A new menu item allows you to select any log-file, and create new ones with
  153.   any name. F8 from Logbook operations. Requested by G3XTT and others. Support
  154.   for the startup option FN=xxx is therefore obsolete and is removed.
  155. * If the online help file TURBOLOG.HLP has been changed, then the first access
  156.   to help will automatically rebuild the internal help file. Support for the
  157.   startup option NEWHELP is therefore obsolete and is removed.
  158. * The DXCC and Keyword listing facilities are enhanced to provide column totals
  159.   for every column. Requested by G3TXF.
  160. * The CT import facility is further enhanced to allow state/zone received to be
  161.   placed in the keyword field.

  165. BUG FIXES:
  166. * The filter ranges for packet spots were not reset following editing of the
  167.   QRG parameter from within TurboLog.

  169. NEW FEATURES:
  170. * TurboLog messages are now held in a separate file called TURBOLOG.MSG, which
  171.   resides in the root directory, along with TURBOLOG.CNF, EXE and OVR. This will
  172.   hopefully reduce the number of updates required to TURBOLOG.CNF.

  177. * On Kenwood radios, alternate GRABs would QSY the rig to original rather than
  178.   DX spot frequency. Discovered by G0AEQ.

  182. * The file handle limit is revised again, this time to 25, to avoid the risk of
  183.   DOS itself running out of handles.

  190. NEW FEATURES:
  191. * Support for new Yaesu PROM (Version 6.00 in FT1000, 1.3 in FT990) implemented.
  192.   This PROM overcomes the problem of the transceiver locking up for several
  193.   seconds whilst its frequency is read. The code automatically detects the
  194.   PROM version.
  195. * Support for the Yaesu FT890 added.
  196. * An improved sort algorithm is used in the log sort operation

  198. Version 1.11  11-Apr 1992

  200. BUG FIX:
  201. * In changing the sort algorithm (V1.10) I broke the rebuild index files part
  202.   of the operation, and also the Alt-L facility in the logging window. This
  203.   version fixes those problems.

  205. Version 1.12  18-Apr 1992

  207. This was the version released at Dayton Hamvention, 1992.

  209. BUG FIX:
  210. * In the basic packet window, the edit messages facility sometimes ran out of
  211.   file handles. This is fixed by closing all database files before entering the
  212.   editor.
  213.  
  214. NEW FEATURE:
  215. * Support for deleted countries implemented. A DXCC status flag of X in 
  216.   COUNTRY.DAT is used. QSOs entered for deleted countries must have the country
  217.   number edited in manually after entry. Deleted countries are shown in DXCC
  218.   totals etc.

  220. Version 1.13  14-May 1992

  222. BUG FIX:
  223. * If a DX spot arrived for a country that TL could not identify, and you then
  224.   logged a QSO immediately, the DXCC.DAT file would sometimes grow to 3MB in
  225.   size! I think I have finally tracked down this wierd bug!
  226.  
  227. NEW FEATURES:
  228. * The parallel port base addresses can now be specified in TURBOLOG.CNF. This
  229.   is mainly to support users of PS/2 machines when using CW keying, as these
  230.   machines use a different addressing structure. Look at parameter PRTPORT.
  231. * When in review mode, the Analysis box (Country, bearings etc.) are updated
  232.   to show the details of the QSO that is highlighted. This enhancement gives
  233.   the processor a LOT more work to do, and may result in slow scrolling on slow
  234.   machines. Let me know if this is a problem to you. Requested by K2CIB.
  235. * In post event logging mode, the order of date entry is now determined by the
  236.   setting of DATEFORM in TURBOLOG.CNF, as follows:
  237.     DDMMYY or DDMMMYY:  Date entry is in format DD-MM-YY
  238.     MMDDYY or MMMDDYY:  Date entry is in format MM/DD/YY.
  239.   Requested by K2CIB.
  240. * In post event logging mode, the cursor is positioned to the BEGINNING of the
  241.   start time field (was set to the end).  (Requested by various people)
  242. * The program checks on startup that it has sufficient file handles to operate.
  243.   If FILES= in CONFIG.SYS is missing or set to less than 40, the program will
  244.   not run. An error message is output.

  246. Version 1.14  27-May 1992

  251. * In review mode, with <100 entries listed, the HOME key would result in no

  255. * As it is now possible to have several entries in the personal database for any
  256.   given callsign, a new facility (Alt-D from the logging window) allows a full
  257.   listing of all the entries, plus selection of any one of them for inclusion in
  258.   the comments field, using the CUU/CUD keys.

  267. * Transceiver control. You can now override the default transceiver address
  268.   and interface speed settings via parameters RIGADDR and RIGSPEED in
  269.   TURBOLOG.CNF. This is particularly useful for users of Icom transceivers.

  274. * QSL label/file printing in callsign order when processing very large log

  285. * Local time calculations incorrect when time offsets applied to system
  286.   clock. (Tnx: AK1A)
  287. * The RIGADDR parameter in TURBOLOG.CNF was not correctly accessed, so non
  288.   standard Icom addresses were not supported. (Tnx: G4TXA)
  289.  
  290. NEW FEATURES:
  291. * Rig memories are implemented for rapid QSY anywhere. Up to 100 frequencies
  292.   and modes are contained in TURBOLOG.CNF (Parameter RIGMEM), and the QSY is
  293.   performed by typing #nnn into the callsign field, where nnn is the memory
  294.   number. (Requested by G3YBT)
  295. * Support for keyboard translation tables is implemented, in response to
  296.   requests from Scandinavia. These operate on Packet input/output and the
  297.   CW generator only. (Requested by OH2BBF)
  298. * Support for K1EA CT version 8 implemented. The .RES file version is
  299.   detected automatically. (Requested by AK1A and others)
  300. * Time stamping the start of a QSO is now supported. When you start your QSO
  301.   you can press + and the time will be remembered. You can then take your
  302.   time over entering the QSO details and when you do press enter to log the
  303.   QSO, the start time will be set to when you pressed +. The start time is
  304.   displayed in the band/mode/power window. A further depression of + cancels
  305.   the time stamp. This is for if the QSO subsequently fails. The previous
  306.   definition of the + key is no longer required as a result.

  308. * The screen blanker is enhanced. Using parameter BLANKOFF in TURBOLOG.CNF,
  309.   you can set which types of PacketCluster activity will cancel the saver.

  311. * Using the *COMMENT facility in the callsign field now logs band, mode and
  312.   power, so it can be used meaningfully for *CQ calls etc.

  322.   character set, then Alt-T talk cannot be used in the basic packet window,

  349. Version 2.00  27-Sep 1992

  351. TurboLog 2 was released at the RSGB HF Convention on 27 September 1992. Major
  352. enhancements include full support for G8BPQ node code, remote alert facility,
  353. Alarm clocks, Automatic back-up and restore, on-line editing of DXCC databases
  354. and many other features.

  356. Version 2.01  01-Oct 1992

  358. Amazing how some little things get missed in beta trials! Various minor
  359. bugs found in the aftermath of version 2.00 release are fixed here.

  361. BUG FIXES:
  362. * CT imports resulted in incorrect alignment of serial numbers. Fixed.
  363. * F9 from utilities menu did not exit menu (Escape ok). (Tnx: G0JNZ & others)
  364. * Various minor bugs in the multiconnect window fixed. (Tnx: G0OFE)
  365. * In keyword listings, if format was defined manually would not list, but ok
  366.   if a loaded format used. (Tnx G4SFO)
  367. * Fault in logbook listings prevented saving of "ALL QSOs" parameter in
  368.   format file. (Tnx G4UXG)
  369. * QSL received icons in DXCC display and filtered window only displayed
  370.   if QSL NOT accepted at DXCC desk. (Tnx G4CCZ)

  373. * After discussions with EI5DI at the HF Convention, several changes have
  374.   been made to the Super-Duper import facility to improve its flexibility.

  376. Version 2.02, 12-Oct 1992

  378. BUG FIXES:
  379. * If a serial interface band-check (AUTOBAND nnn or LOG) was requested whilst
  380.   the transceiver was outside amateur bands, then garbage was displayed in
  381.   band information window of logbook. (Tnx James)
  382. * If an alarm clock QSY was to a BANDS II band, then the bandchange was not
  383.   made and sometimes caused corruption of the status display. (Tnx G4VXE)
  384. * I managed to break the MANUAL cluster connection facility somewhere along
  385.   the line. This is mended again. (Tnx: G4SOF and others)
  386. * If you were in the Filtered DX window and took F2 to the logging window,
  387.   then entered a frequency in the callsign field, this was not cleared after
  388.   the enter key was pressed. (Tnx: G3LNS)
  389.  
  390. NEW FEATURES:
  391. * I changed the colours of the registration window because on some displays it
  392.   was apparently hard to read.
  393. * The conversion utility for TurboLog 1 files now has a safety catch: you need
  394.   to confirm that you want the conversion to occur. Also note that the version
  395.   1 file remains on your hard disk, with an extension of .TL1.
  396.  
  397. Version 2.03, 18-Oct 1992
  398. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  399. BUG FIXES:
  400. * I broke the setting of TNC date and time during TurboLog start-up. This is
  401.   fixed. (Tnx: G2FUD)
  402. * Under certain circumstances, the internal help file (HELP.INT) was not built
  403.   correctly, and ended up with zero length. I think this is fixed, but if you
  404.   do get this again, please delete HELP.INT so it can be rebuilt again.
  405. * The spot alerting facility did not sound the internal speaker if the
  406.   internal MORSE generator was turned off. (Tnx:G4WVX)
  407. * In the DXCC summary display, the overall summary mixed modes numbers were
  408.   sometimes wrong. The opportunity was also taken to improve the speed of
  409.   operation of the mixed mode summary. (Tnx: G3XTT)
  410. * In keyword listings, if a field occurred after the SUM field, then it was
  411.   partially overwritten (true since 1.00!). (Tnx: G0NUP)
  412.  
  413. NEW FEATURES:
  414. * The BPQ Code interface is enhanced to allow a block of streams to be
  415.   allocated for use by TurboLog. TurboLog will not attempt to access streams
  416.   outside of this range.

  418. Version 2.04, 07-Nov 1992
  419. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  420. BUG FIXES:
  421. * Exponential frequencies such as 9E3 in callsign field would cause the rig to
  422.   QSY (to 9000kHz). This is not what is wanted when you really were working
  423.   someone in 9E land! Exponential values are now ignored.
  424. * QSYs using a frequency in the callsign field, or the TurboLog memories, to
  425.   a non amateur band frequency caused garbage display in the logging window.
  426. * The remote alert facility sometimes didn't key the PTT line correctly.
  427. * If you assigned a different country to a callsign longer than 10 characters
  428.   then that assignment didn't work (Broken since version 1.00!). (Tnx: G3LNS)
  429.  
  430. NEW FEATURES:
  431. * When doing Alt-L, P, I or Q in logbook window, large searches can take some
  432.   time particularly on slow systems. A "Working" indicator in the status
  433.   window flashes to indicate that something is happening.
  434. * Canadian provinces VY1 (Yukon), VY2 (PEI) and VY3 (New Brunswick (someday?))
  435.   are supported in the code and via a new AREAS.DAT file.
  436. * A new parameter, DXCCDISP is added to TURBOLOG.CNF, and allows the selection
  437.   of which mode's DXCC information will be displayed initially when the DXCC
  438.   matrix is requested.
  439. * In review mode, when jumping to a date: if no QSOs were made on that date
  440.   then the review highlight is positioned to the QSOs on the date immediately
  441.   before that specified. (Requested by G4CCZ)
  442. * Each of the alerting sounds can individually be selected to sound locally,
  443.   remotely, both or neither, via TURBOLOG.CNF. (Requested by G3OUF)

  445. Version 2.05, 11-Nov 1992
  446. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  447. KNOWN BUG:
  448. * In the basic, multiconnect and mail windows, the bottom line of the display
  449.   is duplicated until a full screen of data is available. Thereafter it is ok.
  450.   This is something to do with the display file manager and will be fixed as
  451.   soon as I can find out what!
  452.  
  453. BUG FIXES:
  454. * CT8 import put RST received in Keyword field rather than exchange received.
